Elwood’s Crown is a delightful children’s picture book in a soft cover that is bilingual and is the first in the series. This is a story of a carefree frog and lessons learned, the story is told with bright vibrant colorful illustrations and is told in both English and Spanish all within the same page. The story is for children of all ages, teaching children the concept of taking care of their belongings, the story will engage them all while teaching a lesson.
Elwood’s Crown is a story that you will fall in love with no matter your age, the author writes with skill that will light an imaginative spark within. This is a series that both you and your children will want to read and the message the story delivers is a positive one. This is a sweet and simple story of young Elwood running into a snag. My kids were intrigued by the title (which of course I repeated to develop their interest), and then the story to which they could relate on an everyday basis. This has become a relaxing favorite. As along with my kids, I so enjoy illustrations, I especially felt his lovely crown was just right and precious for frogs. Without giving away too much, this is a pleasant story with mild lessons, and great illustrations. The book itself is a good size with large text, and the bilingual touch (Eng./Span.) makes it even more inviting. Enjoy this one.

Shannon Rumple introduces readers to a feisty frog and his loving mom, in her debut children’s book, entitled, Elwood’s Crown. Important life lessons are cleverly woven into the very fabric of this heartwarming tale of responsibility, accountability and personal character.
The first thing I noticed was the unique layout of this book. Designed so that when opened, one page is dedicated to art work, while the opposing page displays the written story. The full page, black canvas illustrations compliment the story, creating a captivating visual to keep wondering eyes interested. On each adjacent page, English occupies the fist half of the page, with the Spanish translation, paragraph in full, underneath. Thus providing an excellent teaching tool for those learning English as a second language. While at the same time, giving parents of English speaking children the opportunity to introduce their children to the Spanish language. Both of which lay the foundation of cultural acceptance and understanding.
Filled with interesting illustrations and engaging text, Elwood’s Crown addresses important questions of behavior and character, for the whole family. Shannon has been busy working on Elwood’s second adventure, “Fly Cake”, tentatively scheduled for release next summer. There’s much to love about Elwood’s Crown, with the seamless bilingual format inside, the overall dimensions, thick pages, and slick coat, easy to clean cover, this is a well constructed, family friendly book, that will undoubtedly spend very little time on the shelf.

April 10, 2007: Due to the fact that most schools are now moving towards teaching English as well as Spanish to the younger children, Elwood’s Crown is a well put-together story that has both the English version of the story as well as the Spanish version of the story in the same book. I highly recommend this as an addition to your library!

I highly recommend this book for educational and school learning, as well as reading with your children. This book is written in both Spanish and English, so it is a wonderful eductional tool as well.
